Laser beam welding are the widely used welding technology today in several industry such as aerospace, communication, energy, automotive, petrochemical refining, medical, electronics, instrumentation and many more. They provide accurate control welding, no distortion and smooth results.

In order to provide these results, there are several types of media used in this welding technology. There are three types of media for laser: the solid state, gas and fibre. The solid state lasers can be operated in the pulsed and continuous modes especially for the Nd: YAG or yttrium aluminum garnet doped with neodymium. Users of this type of laser welding are required to use special protective gear for their eyes. Other crystals used are chromium in aluminum oxide and synthetic ruby. The gas lasers use gases such as nitrogen, carbon dioxide and helium as the media to provide the lasers and can be operated in pulsed and continuous modes. The last type, the fibre type uses no other than the fibre and this type is the widely used one in robotic industrial welding.

All of these laser welding equipment media provides the minimum heat affecting the zones of the welds and excellent or superior metallurgical quality for the welds that are created.
